Maurang

In-universe, Maurang is an endangered language spoken by the indigenous inhabitants of a colonized archipelago. Although it is still used as a primary means of communication, there are few if any monolingual Maurang speakers remaining, and Eketai has long been the language of business and higher education on the Maurang archipelago.

From a this-world perspective, Maurang is superficially inspired by the Caucasian languages, although syntactically and morphologically it differs significantly from that family. It is ergative, head-initial, and primarily dependent-marking.
