"outer" family (i.e. ancestors, siblings, and siblings' descendents; everyone in your family who is not your descendent)

Katnae culture makes a very clear distinction between a person's descendents and their ancestors and other relatives. A typical adult will respect and love the latter, but won't feel that they owe them anything or expect anything special from them. Favors done in one direction or the other are expected to be paid back in some fashion.
